The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is an internationally acclaimed institution located in the heart of Israel’s business and cultural capital. Since its founding in 1932, this museum has remained dedicated to modern and contemporary Israeli art as well as global classical and contemporary art from around the world. The museum collects, preserves, researches, facilitates education in and communicates modern art from Israel and abroad.
Today the museum holds around 25,000 works of art, including some of Israel’s most significant holdings by prominent names such as Picasso, Giacometti and Chagall. Its permanent collection also encompasses sculptures by Rodin and Moore; photography by Weegee; prints by Munch; Impressionist paintings such as Cézanne’s Mont Sainte-Victoire; modern classics such as Brancusi`s Sleeping Muse or Magritte`s The Treachery of Images; all enthusiastically displayed between three exceptionally characterful buildings.
Within its walls one can discover centuries-old statues dating back to Roman times alongside works by emerging Israeli talents alongside digital installation pieces. Moreover the recently launched Labyrinth Project has brought with it a host new commissions – a combination ripe with creative possibilities. Of those that form part of the project are luminaries like American artist Lawrence Weiner who replaced words burned into surfaces on materials from nearby ancient cities.
Tel Aviv Museum prides itself on its strong focus towards educating citizens about contemporary practices through events like ‘Open Studio’ wherein artists demonstrate how their work comes together for curious onlookers or ‘Thursday Evenings at TA MoA' which showcases lively debates about various topics related to international fine arts trends offering unparalleled opportunities for visitors on how different mediums can interact with society.
With an active community outreach programme there is something for everyone at the Tel Aviv Museum – whether simply strolling through numerous galleries or taking part in any of a number activities at its many events – here curiosity can be sated while creativity flourishes.
