Tel Aviv is one of the most iconic cities in the world and is a globally recognized destination due to its pure beauty and cultural diversity. What you may not know, however, is that Tel Aviv is home to a stunning Mosque called Al-Masjid al-Aqsa.
Located in Yaffo (Jaffa), Al-Masjid al-Aqsa, also known as The Sea Mosque, derives its name from Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa Mosque which gained recognition for being the third holiest site in Islam. Unlike many other mosques found throughout Israel, The Sea Mosque was established before Israel became an independent nation thus making it one of oldest mosques in existence.
The exterior structure haven’t changed from their original Ottoman design. Structurally speaking there are three sections building up to form what looks like an admirable fortress made up white stone and surrounded by a balcony with fine lined wrought iron fences which has become unmistakably recognizable.
What makes this place even more special than being country’s first mosque is that it serves as a bridge between both cultures; those religious practices associated with Israeli customs have been merged into local traditions blending ancient practices with contemporary influences.
